President Obama: pondering the "I" word
Also...Dem plot to sandbag the GOP? Good "fat cats" and bad "fat cats"
By Wes Vernon

Prior to President Obama's most recent TV appearance to discuss the failed Christmas Day attempt to blow up an international flight at Detroit, his White House minions promised "shocking" revelations in the president's announcement.

Shocking indeed

Though most of the media missed it, the promise was fulfilled. For the first time, the president took responsibility (sort of) for the intelligence failure, resorting to a Harry Trumanism "The buck stops" with him. He also acknowledged that the United States is "at war with al-Qaeda." Ooooooh! That's a bold (and "shocking") step up the ladder from the "isolated extremist" he identified a few days (and few news conferences) earlier on the subject in his first public appearance (in his golfing digs) three days after the bombing.

There, we heard word of Farouk Abdulmutallab as the "alleged" bomber and a "suspect" who would be turned over to the criminal courts (instead of a military tribunal) and accorded all the rights of a common horse thief.

But what was really shocking is that after nearly his first year in office, we have a wartime president who clearly would like to shirk his duty (some believe he already has) as a wartime president. He is clearly unfocused. A focused President Obama — speaking from his "alleged" birthplace of Hawaii — would have identified Abdulmutallab as an enemy combatant.

Moreover, even after uttering the forbidden word "war," this wartime president refuses to identify the enemy. Yes, we are at war with al-Qaeda, Mr. President, but it's more than that. Where is the term "Islamofascism," or — if you prefer — "Radical Islam"?

Try to imagine President Franklin D. Roosevelt — at the outset of our involvement in World War II — declaring:

"On December 7, 1941 — a day that may live in infamy, but then again may be viewed as a day much like any other — some isolated extremists bombed Pearl Harbor. We must not jump to any conclusions here. Not everyone of Japanese descent is warlike. We shall challenge these alleged criminals with a feather."

How this went down

So unfocused was the president — and apparently those around him — that the very reason they had to go back to the cameras again and again is that the public uproar refused to go away despite their highest hopes and best efforts to wish the uproar off the front pages and public dialogue. They really did believe it would be a two- or three-day story and just fade into the background — all the better to refocus the spotlight on health care (alleged) reform and cap and (strongly suspected) tax. They couldn't wait for the all-important holy causes of putting their dictatorial edicts between you and your doctor and taxing you into the poorhouse.

But alas

Nonetheless, the great unwashed refused to stop asking questions. So finally, it was necessary to go before the cameras yet again and admit that though mistakes were made, we won't name names and apparently no one will be sacked.

The most obvious target for "re-organization" (a Washington euphemism) would be Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS) Janet Napolitano, who infamously declared that "the system worked." Ah! So that's it! The Dutch tourist who wrestled Abdulmutallab and — with the help of others — prevented the assassination of 289 passengers and crew — was a secret agent. All along, Janet Napolitano had planted him there to make sure "the system worked." Such brilliant foresight!

There are those who say Napolitano was merely reiterating the official word from the Obama White House — that a "system" (albeit a bad one) did work. Moreover, it is argued that DHS was created in a politically-correct congressional mishmash from the beginning — and thus bound to be ineffective anyway.

Perhaps that would fly were it not for the fact that Lady Janet has proved consistently clueless. One can cite her description of terror attacks as "man-made disasters," as well as her report telling law enforcers to be on the lookout for the real threat to homeland security — returning servicemen with guns who will be taken in by dangerous "right-wing extremists." Get it? 9/11 was a "man-made disaster," but watch out for those real dangerous returning American soldiers.

Or how about John O. Brennan — President Obama's Homeland Security advisor? Perhaps he should be a ripe target for "re-organization." He justifies (while using more politically adept verbiage) every Obama step that defies common sense on national security matters.

Brennan is a Washington survivor. He claims to have served 5 administrations. He is known for a disinclination to tell the boss he's wrong or should re-think his approach. Apparently, that is how he "survives."

The real problem

One can make a credible case for firing Napolitano and/or Brennan. But would that solve the problem? Consider the following:

1 — Major Nidal Malik Hasan's shooting rampage that resulted in the killings of thirteen of his fellow soldiers. There were plenty of red flags as to Hasan's radicalization, but authorities looked the other way, noting that the Commander-in-Chief refused even to whisper the words "Radical Muslim," let alone identify said radicals as "the enemy." In the Obama world, Hasan's clear act of war was merely "a crime [not an enemy attack] against our nation."

2 — The administration has decided to prosecute the mastermind of 9/11 — Khalid Shaikh Mohammed — and five of his co-conspirators in a civil court in New York — just a few blocks from the "scene of the crime" in downtown Manhattan. The decision was announced by Attorney General Eric Holder, but make no mistake: No decision of this magnitude escapes the OK from the office of the man who says the buck stops with him. Here, the president is placing Americans in danger. There are about 8 million living in New York City alone — excluding surrounding densely populated suburbs. The president of the United States is charged with protecting Americans — quite the opposite of putting them in harm's way. Moreover, by trivializing the war, he arguably gives aid and comfort to the enemy — all to please the likes of the ACLU.

3 — Mr. Holder — again fall guy for the boss — has named a "special prosecutor" to reopen CIA "abuse" cases. Earlier, the attorney general had said it would be "unfair to prosecute dedicated men and women working to protect America for conduct that was sanctioned in advance by the Justice Department."

I couldn't have said it better. Well, yes I could have, actually. In wartime, you don't give aid and comfort to the enemy by going after "dedicated men and women" on our side who had every reason to believe that in fighting that war, they had the full backing of the Commander-in-Chief. You don't reverse course on that principle, even if conducting a war as if it were — well — a war offends the Hate America left. Eric Holder — who once defined America as "a nation of cowards" — should know something about cowardice.

These are just some of the more egregious examples. There are many others. Which begs the question:

Does dereliction of duty justify the "I" word?

The Constitution of the United States says the President can be impeached and removed from office for "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors."

For starters, we should note that the Pelosi-Reid Congress likely would not impeach and/or convict this president no matter what he does — or fails to do. Secondly, you can get a good argument among lawyers as to whether any of the examples cited above legally constitute "dereliction of duty" (I believe they do, but I'm not a lawyer), much less whether they fall into any of the specifically spelled-out grounds for impeachment. (If I had my way, they would, but it's not my call.)

One can speculate whether President Obama (who once taught constitutional law) uses Holder as the bearer of bad tidings, imagining somehow that the president can escape having his fingerprints all over it in public perception...i.e., he thinks we're that stupid.

What needs to be done by conservative barristers in our midst is to keep careful tabs on everything this president does, add it all up if the pattern continues, and perhaps re-visit the issue at a later date, bearing in mind: If failure to protect the American people is not impeachable, what is?

Meantime, while we're looking one way...

More than one observer has expressed a belief that one reason this administration does so many outrageous things simultaneously is to make it all the more difficult for the electorate to keep up with them.

So while the president dropped the ball on the Detroit underwear bomber, the following also merit attention:

1 — New ambush to pick your pocket?

On New Year's Eve, USA Today reported that "Bipartisan support is growing in Congress" for President Obama "to back the creation of a commission that would recommend spending cuts and tax increases and require a vote by Congress" (italics added), a process that has worked with the political hot potato of base closings. Even Pelosi says the rising debt should be a priority.

Do tell! This is a classic case of the arsonist heroically rushing to put out the fire. Many are wary that it may be used as the stalking horse for a massive tax increase (no, really?). Some wary conservatives (who quite naturally smell a rat) suggest that a congressional vote on any commission recommendations — most especially a huge tax increase — should await a vote by next year's Congress, which is likely to be more balanced than the current one dominated by liberals. Higher taxes are usually the cure that is worse than the disease.

Even the idea of a commission itself is dubious. High spending is nothing new in Washington. But this Congress and administration plunged headlong into unprecedented territory (trillions vs. billions). Let them step up to the plate and lie in the bed they created. Take this commission idea as an admission of abject failure.

2 — Santa Obama leaves lump of coal in your stocking

On Christmas Eve, when we were preparing for the most important holiday of the year, the Obama administration moved to cover an unlimited amount of losses at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The Treasury Department announced it would lift the caps of available funds for each of the companies to $200 billion, or a total of $400 billion out of your pocket and mine.

We were told that this was "necessary to preserve the continuing strength of the mortgage market." Recall Fannie and Freddie — whose executive suites were stacked to the hilt with liberal Democrat cronies and partners — made reckless loans to people who could not afford them and would not have passed muster for homes through a conventional bank loan. That is a major cause of the market crash in mid-September, 2008 — leading to widespread unemployment and depleted portfolios.

It would have been more accurate if Treasury had said the move was necessary to preserve the continuing bank accounts of the buddies of the president and members of Congress such as Barney Frank and Chris Dodd.

BTW — Recall when Mr. Obama told bankers in a White House woodshed session that he didn't run for president so he could bail out "fat-cat bankers on Wall Street."

How's this? Fannie and Freddie disclosed (also on Christmas Eve) that Fannie CEO Michael Williams and Freddie CEO Charles Haldeman were to benefit from new packages reaching as high as $6 million a year, including bonuses.

Oh, but you see — there are bad "fat cats" and then good "fat cats."

Are we all adults here? Did GOP Congressman Spencer Bachus's comment that the timing of the announcement was meant "to prevent the general public from taking note" suggest anything but the obvious?

Black Activists Respond to Reid's Racial Remarks

Washington, DC: Black conservatives with the Project 21 leadership network are speaking out about the recently-revealed racial comments about , that were made by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) in 2008:

Mychal Massie (chairman of Project 21): "Harry Reid is a loathsome individual whose apology was based on exposure not repentance. Reid's comments are proof positive that the racial animus of the past is alive and prevalent among liberals today, notwithstanding the fact that their standard-bearer is a black man."

Robert A. George: "How nice to see that, when it comes to race in America, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has such, ahem, 'enlightenment' (pun intended). Thank goodness no jive-talkin' darky ever thought about running for president! No way Reid could have supported him!!" (This quote comes from Robert's "Ragged Thots" blog. The entire post can be seen at http://raggedthots.blogspot.com.)

Bob Parks: "The hazard of being an apologist is having your own words thrown back in your face. Obama demanded the Republicans drum Senator Trent Lott out of their party in 2002 when Lott gave inappropriate praise to centenarian and reformed segregationist senator Strom Thurmond on his birthday. The underlying problem here is that boneheaded racist statements by politicians are all too common, and only conservatives seem to get called on them and punished. Republicans did strip Lott of his leadership post. Obama is absolving the Democrats of acting against Reid. This is a dangerous trend." (More can be found on Bob's "Black and Right" web site at http://www.black-and-right.com.)

Lisa Fritsch: "Why would Harry Reid apologize now when it seems clear he felt it and meant it at the time? It was less likely 'a poor choice of words' than an honest reflection of Reid's character."

R. Dozier Gray: "Black people historically have a lot of forgiveness in their hearts for people who make statements like the one Reid made. I might have forgiven him long ago had he sought to be accountable when he realized that what he said was stupid instead of when he realized that a book featuring it was coming out. But the black 'leadership' will likely let this slide. Power is usually more important to them than this sort of soft racism from a political ally. Truth be told, some of the policies advocated by Reid and his allies are more damaging than a few of his random racial comments."

Darryn "Dutch" Martin: "In the grand scheme of things, what Reid said, his apology and Obama's acceptance of it is irrelevant. What is striking is that Reid said it in 2008, a Time magazine reporter knew it and didn't make it public until 2010! Why wasn't it reported as soon as it became known? Would the mainstream media exercise such restraint and bury a newsworthy quote if a conservative public figure made a similar linguistic faux pas? I think not."

In the book Game Change, set to be released Monday, authors Mark Halpern and John Heilemann write that Reid privately analyzed the electoral appeal of then-Senator Barack Obama, referring to Obama as "light-skinned" with "no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one."

When the comments were posted on Marc Ambinder's Atlantic magazine website, Reid expressed "deep regret [for] using such a poor choice of words." President Obama issued a rare immediate public statement saying he "accepted Harry's apology without question."

Reid is no stranger to using the race card for political gain. In December 2009, for example, Reid compared those who opposed a government takeover of health care to lawmakers who opposed abolishing slavery and civil rights legislation.

What can I do to help preserve America?

What America needs — if it is to survive in liberty — is a surge in citizen activism unlike anything our nation has ever before seen.

The success of such a grassroots movement will depend on how much individual citizens are willing to do their part to return our country to divinely-inspired principles of self-governance — those principles outlined by the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, and those validated by common sense and biblical teaching as self-evidently true.

If you feel you need to "wait for instructions," or otherwise depend on others — especially those in positions of leadership — to guide and assist you, our country will not survive these perilous times. You must act as though the future of our country depends on you alone, for in a very real sense it does. It depends on the creative, responsible, exemplary initiative of yourself and those you inspire to similar patriotism.

Here are suggestions for helping to make a difference in the future of our country.
1. Live right.

The single most important thing you can do for your country is to set an example of outward and inward commitment to godly living. Be the kind of person God can work through to save our nation.

If you have yet to do so, determine with all your heart to yield your will completely to God "as a little child" (Matt. 18:3-4) and allow Him to change you according to His will and design for you — so that thereby you might truly fulfill your divine "mission" in life; so that you might be fully open to His guidance and influence; and so that you might be submissive to whatever challenges or tasks He desires of you. After yielding your will in this manner, and thus becoming truly born again according to the scriptural pattern (see John 3:1-8; Acts 1:1-9, 2:1-47; and Heb. 8:6-13), then work continuously on developing the godly self-discipline needed to please Him in all you do, and strive to overcome anything in your character that contradicts His precepts for godly, self-sacrificing, compassionate living.

Be a true Christian in both word and deed, and continually strive to become a better one — one who inspires others to live by a higher standard than they may be accustomed.

Never underestimate the power of righteous example — and be that kind of example!

One thing is reasonably certain: If enough Americans live worthy of God's intervention and miracles in their lives, and inspire enough people around them to strive with all their hearts to do likewise — then according to biblical principles and teachings, God will spare our country, no matter what evils confront it. (See 2 Chron. 7:14 and Isaiah 60:12.)

On such a scripture-based promise, we can all wisely depend.
2. Take bold, appropriate action.

If — in a very real sense — our nation's future depends on you alone (and on similar patriots you inspire), don't simply be a spectator who watches others do courageous, remarkable things. Do them yourself! Lead out!

The evils confronting America have never been more threatening, insidious, or powerful — and your country therefore needs your activism more than ever before. Stand up and make a difference!

What should you do? If you're living in harmony with God's will, you'll know. You won't need "that any man teach you" (see 1 John 2:20-29), but will know in your heart by His Spirit what He wants you to do — and you will have His power and authority to sustain and multiply your efforts. (See Acts 10:34-38 and Matt. 7:29.) You won't need to rely on others to guide or direct you, but will be reliant on God alone to know and do His will.

By your leadership, you will inspire others to do likewise in their own sphere and in their own way, as God directs them.
3. Consider the possibility that God might want you to:
• Submit frequent letters to editors.
• Testify at public hearings.
• Hold regular gatherings in your home or community to discuss and promote the cause of liberty.
• Volunteer to work in a political campaign, at any level, for any worthy purpose.
• Widely distribute signs for a cause or a candidate.
• Lead — or get involved in — a worthy petition drive.
• Organize a rally, large or small, to publicize an urgent issue or cause.
• Contact your local paper and offer to be interviewed regarding a public question or concern you have vital knowledge of.
• Pick up the phone and share your views on talk radio — or if you have the skills and opportunity, create your own radio or internet talk show.
• Create a blog.
• Found a website.
• Write and publish a regular column — or even a book.
• Get actively involved in a major (or possibly a "third") political party in your state or the nation.
• Run for local — or higher — public office.
• Sign the Pledge for America's Revival — and invite others to do the same.
• Participate in the Discussion Board at AmericasRevival.com, and support similar discussion forums on the web.
• Help organize your state or local area in the cause of taking back our country. (Consider getting involved in the State Activism section at AmericasRevival.com.)
• Inform yourself. "Zeal without knowledge" (see Rom. 10:2-3) will not save our country. Become acquainted with reliable, principled websites, blogs, publications, books, speakers, organizations, and other praiseworthy sources for information regarding the needs of our country and the solutions to those needs. Sign up to receive helpful newsletters and alerts.

A good place to start informing yourself would be to study essential documents that describe our nation's founding principles.
• Work on your "people skills." By this, we mean your ability to strengthen and influence others for good — so they might be persuaded to take independent action — not your ability to "use" others for your own ends, as some might think. Respect the worth, dignity, and free will of each individual as you seek to assist them in fulfilling their duty as citizens.
• Work on your communicative skills. "Politics is communication," to a large extent. Become the kind of communicator God can use for His purposes. Meaningful communication requires practice, experience, wisdom, and the operation of God's Spirit in effectively informing real people in real situations. This applies equally to both spoken and written communication.
• Turn your skills and resources mainly to saving our country — above any other purpose beyond your own salvation and the well-being of your family — and rely on God to give you the practical means to do so.
4. Expect adversity.

Just as our Founders — or other great figures in history — suffered considerable adversity and personal hardship for their principled allegiance to the will of God, you too can expect adversity as you stand forth in the cause of reclaiming America. "No good deed ever goes unpunished," as the saying goes.

This will likely prove true the more you become a significant player in our country's future, as the Adversary will predictably seek to destroy your efforts — and as God Himself may undertake to try you, to test the depth of your commitment to His will.

Of course, not all adversity comes from outside sources — since we often bring it upon ourselves by our imperfect nature. But it helps to bear in mind that, no matter the source of our difficulties and challenges, a wise Father can help us deal successfully and productively with all our struggles, provided we rely on Him, and not upon our own wisdom or strength.
5. Don't give up.

If you persist in well-doing, relying on God to bless and sustain you against all odds and the hardships you can expect to encounter, you will emerge victorious over the forces of evil that confront our country, and you will be a beacon of reason and righteousness, and thus a tangible inspiration, to those around you.

That's all anyone can expect of another in the cause of reclaiming our republic. If enough of us catch the vision of such selfless grassroots activism, and spread it infectiously to others, we will succeed in preserving the "blessings of liberty [not only] to ourselves [but to] our posterity." Obama's 'safe schools' chief behind
'gay' propaganda play

Kevin Jennings, President Obama's "safe schools czar," is president of the board of the Tectonic Theater Project, which created "The Laramie Project," a play about the 1998 murder of University of Wyoming homosexual Matthew Shepard that condemns traditional biblical views on homosexuality as hateful and bigoted.

The play, performed by dozens of colleges and high schools around the nation, ridicules a Baptist minister for preaching the biblical perspective on homosexuality as a sin. The pastor's expression of hope that Shepard repented of his sins before dying is described as hateful.
